Who is doing more to help conserve the environment, hunters or animal rights activists?

I’m inclined to say hunters, as they are actually out there interacting with the environment, benefiting from it. They help control animal populations to ensure that a balance in the ecosystem is maintained.

Activists have good intentions and ideologies, but are their protests and campaigns as effective as a hunters direct action?

Both groups work within their own specifics when it comes to ‘animals’. Animal rights people have worked to reduce suffering of domestic animals and we’ve seen a strong movement toward far more humane treatment of laboratory animals. Nobody can say that hasn’t been all to the good. Of course sometimes these folks step outside their natural boundaries and attempt to impinge on hunting and fishing…not so good. On the plus side they have reduce the hunting of whales to a minimum and have worked very hard to protect many of the world’s endangered species. I can’t fault them on their work to reduce ranch bred fur animals. Unless you live in the artic carving up a mink to make a coat does have an ‘ick’ factor to it. Realistically they haven’t had much impact on legitimate hunting and fishing. Hunters for the most part stay well within the law when taking game and various sports groups actually have saved a good deal of wilderness and habitat. Other conservation groups have worked hard to maintain clean water to the advantage of fish species…a plus for fishermen…you can’t fault those effort. Basically we’ve seemed to have maintain a reasonable balance between hunters and anti hunters to the general benefit of God’s critters. So far, so good!
